Ladou (Besan Ladoo) Share

Ingredients: (makes 20 balls)

  1. 200 grams besan gram flour

  2. 180 ml butter or vegetable oil

  3. 30 grams dried grated coconut

  4. 30 grams chopped almonds

  5. 30 grams slivered almonds

  6. One pinch ground nutmeg

  7. 110 grams sugar

Method:

  1. Melt butter/oil in a heavy bottomed pan over low heat.
  2. Add gram flour, grated coconut, chopped almonds and nutmeg. Cook for about 5 minutes stirring constantly.
  3. Add sugar, stir and continue to cook for 10-15 minutes or until the mixture is thick and golden brown.
  4. Remove from heat and allow to cool. Shape into 20 equal sized balls.
  5. Garnish with slivered almonds and serve.
  6. Enjoy, close your eyes and imagine you are in one of the bazars in Mauritius. Port Louis, Rose Hill or Centre de Flacq.
